Buy a Christmas tree and help send a kid to camp!

Here’s your chance to get a high quality, freshly cut Fraser Fir Christmas tree or wreath and – at the same time – pave the way for Goochland kids who’d love to go to Young Life camp next summer. A portion of every purchase will support a Goochland student – the bigger the tree, the bigger the camp scholarship!

You can even choose to have it delivered to your house for just $20 extra!  Trees will be delivered between Dec. 5 – 8, or you can pick up your tree from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 8 at Salem Baptist’s Broad Street location (where Bethlehem Walk is held), 465 Broad Street, Manakin, VA 23103.

Make checks out to Young Life with “VA 229” on the memo line. Make a note on the order form if there is a specific student you want to support – or, if you leave that blank, your purchase will support the general campership fund. Order forms and checks must be returned to the Goochland YL office by Monday Nov. 26 (mail to: PO Box 1221 Goochland, VA 23063).

What a great way to give a Goochland kid the gift of lowering their camp cost so they can hear the greatest news ever!

10th Annual Salem 5K Raises Money for Goochland Young Life

Nearly 80 participants came out for the 10th annual Salem 5K on Saturday Oct. 20. Of the 77 finishers, Henry Jones posted the fastest time among the men at 18:03. Among the women, Sara Gretz had the best time at 22:32. (A list of top finishers is at the bottom of this post.)

The runners and walkers got their start at Goochland High School and followed a route that took them over a somewhat rolling course down Bulldog Way and into the nearby Holland Hills neighborhood.

This is the tenth year that Salem Baptist Church has organized the annual 5K. For the past three years, the church has chosen Goochland Young Life as the beneficiary of the net proceeds of the race.

In addition to sending a big thank you to Salem Baptist Church, Goochland Young Life is also grateful to a dozen local companies that added their support to this year’s 5K. Financial sponsors were Custom Brick and Stone Corporation, Rt. 250 Sports Grill, Goochland Tees, Goochland Dentistry, State Farm Insurance, Hands-On Physical Therapy, Family Chiropractic, Managed Benefits, Von Schilling Lawn Care and Hudgins Dentistry.  Prizes for top finishers were provided by New Balance and Subway.

Sponsors come on board in support of Salem 5K

A number of local companies have lent their support to the Salem 5K!

A big thank you goes to Custom Brick and Stone Corporation as well as to Hands-On Physical Therapy, Hudgins Dentistry, Managed Benefits and State Farm Insurance. We’d also like to thank New Balance and Subway, who plan to supply prizes to 5K participants!

Our sponsors are a big part of the Salem 5K’s success. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available, so please give us a heads up if you know of an organization that would be interested in participating.
