In our fall newsletter, our new staff associate Will Funk wrote:
Hello Goochland! I am so excited about coming into the Goochland area.
After
having just recently returned from Rockbridge with the guys and girls
from Goochland High School, it is safe to say that I am beyond blown
away with the opportunity that has been set before me.
I
grew up not too far away in Henrico County and graduated from Deep Run
High School in 2010. Over the past four years of my life, I attended
Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Va., where I graduated with a
degree in biology. During my time in college, I led Young Life for three
and a half years at Randolph-Henry High School.
After
graduating from Hampden-Sydney, I proposed to the girl of my dreams,
and Katie Corey and I are getting married in May of this upcoming year!
Over the past couple months I have been working as a waterfront intern
at Young Life's Saranac Village camp in Saranac Lake, NY. I am very eager to return to Virginia and start my position in Goochland on the first of September!

Join us for our annual race on November 8. The 5k begins at 9am starting at Goochland High School. This family friendly 5k is open to runners, walkers and strollers!

Goochland YL Car Wash at Midas Short Pump on June 28
Some people say Young Life summer camp is the best week of your life!
This summer, Goochland High School and Middle School students will get a chance to test that out when they head to Young Life’s Rockbridge Camp. But some of them could really use your help to get there.
You can help out by heading over to our Goochland YL car wash on Saturday June 28 from 8-noon at Midas in Short Pump, at the corner of Pump Rd. and Broad St., 11463 W Broad St.
All the money we raise will be used to create camp scholarships. Hope to see you on Saturday!

them could really use your help in covering the cost of camp. Here are three easy ways you can make a big difference:
- June 7 from 8-noon: Come get your car washed at Taylors' Exxon, 1924 Sandy Hook Road in Goochland.
- June 28 from 8-noon: Get your car washed at Midas in Short Pump, at the corner of Pump Rd. and Broad St., 11463 W Broad St.
- June 14: It's Hope Thrift Saturday! And they're devoting 100% of the day's sales to help Goochland kids. Tell all your friends -- you can even buy a gift card!

5K Supports Goochland Young Life
More than 70
participants came out for the Goochland Young Life 5K on Saturday Nov.
2. Natalie Kretzer posted the fastest time for all finishers at 22:54.

The runners and walkers got their start at Goochland High School and followed a route that took them over a somewhat rolling course down Bulldog Way and into the nearby Holland Hills neighborhood.
The 5K’s success is due in part to more than a dozen businesses in the Goochland community who came on board as sponsors. A big thank you goes to Custom Brick and Stone Corporation who, for the second year, was the 5K’s top sponsor. Goochland Dentistry and 250 Sports Grill also returned for a second years as leadership-level sponsors and were joined by first-time sponsor Team Logistics.
Additional 5K sponsors were: Brooks Auto Sales, Inc., EZ Ship, Goochland Family YMCA, Goochland Physical Therapy, Hudgins Dentistry, Live Free Group of Richmond, Parker Properties, Inc., State Farm Insurance, and von Schilling Lawn Care. New Balance supplied prizes to 5K participants.
Proceeds from the 5K support the local Young Life staff person and volunteer leaders.

Young Life Christmas Tree Sale Will Help Send Kids to Camp!

wreath for your home? Would you love to have it DELIVERED?! We can help with

It’s Goochland Young Life’s Christmas Tree Sale, and a portion of every
purchase will support Goochland students who’d love to go to Young Life camp
next summer. You can support a specific Goochland student you know and love, or
support overall camp costs. The bigger the tree, the bigger the camp
scholarship!
For just $20 extra, we’ll deliver the tree to your house on Saturday Dec. 7. If
you’d prefer, you can pick up your tree from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Dec. 7
at the Funkhouser’s house on Gathright Drive in the Goochland Courthouse area.
