Thanks for helping us send 23 kids to YL's Saranac Viilage!

23 kids got the chance to go to the Young Life camp at Saranac this summer! We so appreciate all the friends who made that possible - you helped out by supporting car washes and pizza sales and by making gifts in support of camperships.

The vast majority of the students were first timers. They didn't know quite what to expect. Want to see what they experienced?

Goochland students can Deliver the Dough to raise money for YL summer camp

This summer Goochland students will return to Saranac Village in Upstate New York for summer camp! We are looking forward to kids having the best week of their lives, making lifelong memories with friends and hearing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

To help raise money for the trip, students have the chance to sell Domino's Pizza fundraising cards. Each card is sold for $10 and contains 16 buy one, get one free coupons good at participating Domino's locations. (The Goochland Domino’s is a participating store.)  Delivering the Dough is an easy fundraiser – a card pays for itself in just one use.

For more information, please contact a Young Life leader or Will Funk. For each card that students sell, $8 will go to them for their summer camp trip (the cards cost $2 a piece to order).

 Students can also save $50 on the price of camp

Camp Sign-Up Day will be held on the second Club of the semester (March 7). Students who turn in a $200 deposit on or before this date will save $50 off the total price of camp!

Goochland is going to Saranac!

You may have heard your high school student talking about Young Life summer camp. We’d love to have them on the trip with us, so we wanted to share details directly with you and answer any questions you have.

We are so excited to announce that this summer Goochland will be returning to Saranac Village in Upstate New York! We are looking forward to kids having the best week of their lives, making lifelong memories with friends and hearing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are sure that this year will be just as unforgettable and life giving as years past, and we would love for your child to be a part of it.

Here are some details regarding the trip this summer: 

WHERE? Saranac Village is located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of New York, with

top‐notch accommodations, unbelievable food and an atmosphere unlike any other.

WHEN? Camp dates are July 30 ‐ August 7. We will leave from Goochland High School at 11 p.m. on July 30, and arrive back in Goochland at 2 a.m. on August 7.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO? The waterfront at Saranac has the best equipment money can buy, complete with two Air Nautique boats, a Ski Nautique, two commercial parasail boats, and a whole fleet of Hobie Cat sailboats. That means while at Saranac you can tube, wakeboard, water ski, parasail, sail, hang out at the floating dock and enjoy the water slide and other water activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing. All of this can be enjoyed on the clear mountain waters of Upper Saranac Lake. And, there is just as much, if not more, to do on land: the ropes course, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an 18-hole Frisbee golf course, soccer fields and beach volleyball. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more low‐key, you can visit the game room, hot tub, brand new craft shack, the camp store or hang out in the hammocks on the beach.

HOW MUCH? $850. You can save a spot by turning in your $200 NON- REFUNDABLE deposit with your camp form. (The deposit is refundable up to April 27th.) There are a limited number of spots, so please turn in your camp form and deposit ASAP! 

Multiple opportunities for fundraising and getting financial help will be available. Please ask a Young Life leader for more information and stay up to date on all fundraising opportunities by checking this blog! Checks can be made out to “Young Life.” You can mail checks and forms to Goochland Young Life at PO Box 1221, Goochland VA 23063. You can also give checks and forms to your Young Life Leader.

Goochland Young Life Winter Turkey Shoot

Join us for Goochland Young Life's Winter Turkey Shoot at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at 1015 Hard Times Lane in Goochland.

Come out for a fun afternoon -- you are not shooting turkeys, just targets :) to support students in our local community. It'll be $10 per round with targets and shells provided. We'll provide a gun if you need one -- novices are welcome and instruction will be available. This event is in a safe and controlled shooting environment, and we even have a shooting lane where you can shoot a variety of weapons.

Great time at the 2015 Pig Roast!

Thanks to all our friends who came out for Goochland Young Life's 2015 Pig Roast! A stellar turnout of friends were on hand to hear Wes and Tate tell their stories of what Young Life has meant to them. And we're so grateful for how generously you responded to meet Goochland YL's financial needs! 

God is using Young Life in Goochland, and you're a vital part of that.

Goochland Young Life Winter Turkey Shoot - POSTPONED!

Calling all dirty cars!

You can help Goochland's high school and middle school students go to summer camp. You'll get a good feeling AND a clean car!

Young Life and Wyldlife will host a car wash fundraiser on Saturday June 13 from 9 am - 3 pm at Taylors' gas station, 1924 Sandy Hook Road in Goochland (next to White Hawk).

Plan to bring you car by and give our students a chance to raise money for camp!

Bowl your way to summer camp!

A Bowl-A-Thon will help Goochland middle school and high school students raise money to go to Young Life summer camp. Students will bowl three games at Bowl America in Short Pump at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4.

Whether it's a pledge per pin, pledge per strike or a flat donation, any amount will go a long way in making this summer’s trip a reality! All proceeds will help to cover the cost of the trip.

FUNDRAISING?  Your student can take advantage of opportunities to raise money toward their camp costs. Information about specific fundraisers will be communicated with students, and we’ll post upcoming events to our blog as well.

Want to help kids go to camp?

Then join us at Hope Thrift, from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 21, 2015!

That day, every penny you spend will go to Goochland County Younglife and Wyldlife camping fund, to help a high school or middle school student go to summer camp.

We’re so grateful to our friends at Hope Thrift -- this is the fourth year they’ve helped send Goochland kids to camp. And their support makes a big difference: thousands of dollars can be raised in a single Saturday.

So plan to shop for a good cause!  Join us at Hope Thrift, 11260 Patterson Avenue in the Tuckahoe Village Shopping Center. But first, be sure to share the date with family, friends, neighbors and with your church congregation.

Pig Roast 2014!

We had a big pig, a great band and such a terrific time hearing how God is using Young Life in Goochland!

In our fall newsletter, our new staff associate Will Funk wrote:

Hello Goochland! I am so excited about coming into the Goochland area.  

After having just recently returned from Rockbridge with the guys and girls from Goochland High School, it is safe to say that I am beyond blown away with the opportunity that has been set before me.

I grew up not too far away in Henrico County and graduated from Deep Run High School in 2010. Over the past four years of my life, I attended Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Va., where I graduated with a degree in biology. During my time in college, I led Young Life for three and a half years at Randolph-Henry High School. 

After graduating from Hampden-Sydney, I proposed to the girl of my dreams, and Katie Corey and I are getting married in May of this upcoming year! Over the past couple months I have been working as a waterfront intern at Young Life's Saranac Village camp in Saranac Lake, NY.  I am very eager to return to Virginia and start my position in Goochland on the first of September!

It's time for the Goochland Young Life 5k!

Join us for our annual race on November 8. The 5k begins at 9am starting at Goochland High School. This family friendly 5k is open to runners, walkers and strollers!

All proceeds will support our local staff associate and volunteer leaders.

Goochland YL Car Wash at Midas Short Pump on June 28

Some people say Young Life summer camp is the best week of your life!

This summer, Goochland High School and Middle School students will get a chance to test that out when they head to Young Life’s Rockbridge Camp. But some of them could really use your help to get there.

You can help out by heading over to our Goochland YL car wash on Saturday June 28 from 8-noon at Midas in Short Pump, at the corner of Pump Rd. and Broad St., 11463 W Broad St.

All the money we raise will be used to create camp scholarships. Hope to see you on Saturday!
