Nearly 80 participants came out for the 10
th annual Salem 5K
on Saturday Oct. 20. Of the 77 finishers, Henry Jones posted the fastest time
among the men at 18:03. Among the women, Sara Gretz had the best time at 22:32. (A list of top finishers is at the bottom of this post.)
The runners and walkers got their start at Goochland High School and
followed a route that took them over a somewhat rolling course down Bulldog Way
and into the nearby Holland Hills neighborhood.
This is the tenth year that Salem Baptist Church has organized the
annual 5K. For the past three years, the church has chosen Goochland Young Life
as the beneficiary of the net proceeds of the race.
In addition to sending a big thank you to Salem Baptist Church, Goochland Young Life is also grateful to a dozen local companies that added their support to this year’s 5K.
Financial sponsors were Custom Brick and Stone Corporation, Rt. 250 Sports
Grill, Goochland Tees, Goochland Dentistry, State Farm Insurance, Hands-On
Physical Therapy, Family Chiropractic, Managed Benefits, Von Schilling Lawn
Care and Hudgins Dentistry. Prizes for
top finishers were provided by New Balance and Subway.
